What made you decide to join HSD as an intern this summer?
One of the reasons why I decided to join HSD this summer was to enhance my skills in a new environment and gain more experience.
Has your internship focused on a particular area within HSD?
As part of my role, I am responsible for outreach and promoting the SYEP program through various platforms. It includes highlighting key events, as well as a look inside the work interns have done this summer.
What are some of the things you’ve learned at HSD that you plan to carry with you?
I have gained more skills while at HSD, including adaptability, problem-solving, and embracing challenges that might arise over time. One of my goals is to be able to give a platform to stories that uplift the community.
What advice would you give to future HSD interns?
The advice that I would give is to have an open mind, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and make the most of your experience.
What is something people might not know about you?
I hope to pick up photography as a skill in the future!
Each summer, the Seattle Youth Employment Program offers a six- to eight-week internship program for 250 youth and young adults between the ages of 16 and 24. Participants are placed with nonprofit organizations, private-sector employers, and departments within the City of Seattle and King County while earning minimum wage.
