3 Seattle preschools awarded Levy funding
This week, Mayor Mike McGinn announced the award of $470,000 in funding from the 2011 Families and Education Levy for investments in early learning at three Seattle preschools as part of the City of Seattle’s Step Ahead preschool program.
The 2011 funding increases slots at one existing Levy-funded preschool, Denise Louie Education Center in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, and adds two preschools to the Step Ahead program, Seed of Life LLC (southeast Seattle), and Puget Sound Educational Service District (southwest Seattle). The Levy now funds a total of 20 preschool sites operated by 11 community agencies. The Seattle Human Services Department administers the Step Ahead preschool program. See below. Funded with $964,830 from the Families & Education Levy, this RFQ was first issued in July 2012 with proposals due on August 17th, 2012.

Community preschools receive City levy funds
Mayor McGinn and the Seattle Human Services Department recently announced the awarding of $2.4 million in Families & Education Levy funds to nine community agencies to provide Step Ahead preschool services to low-income three- and four-year-old children and their families. Families & Education Levy RFQs released
Four Requests for Qualifications for the 2011 Families and Education Levy have been released by the Seattle Office for Education. Information sessions are scheduled for each RFQ starting on January 12. Registration is required. The submittal deadline is February 14, 2012. For more information, please see this Web page.
Seeking candidates for Levy Oversight Committee
The City of Seattle is seeking candidates to fill eight citizen positions on the Families and Education Levy Oversight Committee. Approved by Seattle voters on November 8, the $232 million Levy will be effective from 2012 through 2018, providing funding for school readiness and early learning; academic achievement in elementary, middle and high schools; guidance and related support for college and career preparation; and student health services.
