Knowing what to do if an earthquake struck our area better prepares our community to survive and recover quickly from a real seismic event. The Seattle Human Services Department is a staunch supporter of the 2013 Great Washington Shake Out, which is the largest earthquake drill in the United States. This multi-state earthquake drill, which can be conducted in as little as 60 seconds, is an opportunity to practice how to stay safe during and after a seismic event. This will be the second year that this drill will be formally conducted in the Washington area. We strongly encourage you, your school, business or organization to participate by taking part in the drop, cover and hold on exercise on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10:17 a.m. More information is available online on how to plan your drill at this Web site. If you plan to participate please register here so you can be counted.
